If putting him on the potty stresses him out, then don't. I know that seems obvious and I do understand. I have a 16 year old (potty trained at 3) and I have an almost 3 year old who wears 5T and has no interest in potty training. Now, here is one thing that you can try. Let him watch his Dad go pee and get some training targets to let him "shoot" until he masters peeing. Make it fun! Basically you want to give him control over his body. When you pressure him to sit on the potty, you are exerting control and he is reacting. So, take him and his potty chair outside in the backyard, with a t-shirt and new superhero underwear (that you let him pick out) and let him play in the water until he feels himself pee (change his underwear and ask him how it feels to be dry) and then the next time ask him to use his targets in his potty chair like Daddy would. Once he masters this, then you can work on having him master the next phase. Just work on one thing at a time. It will happen. Did you know that Huggies makes a larger underwear type of pull up? I hope this helps. :)

Potty training with special needs.

My wonderful son Owen is 3 with special needs. He has a seizure disorder that has caused sever developmental delays. He is unable to speak or communicate so knowing when the time is right is not easy. He is no where close to potty training but my 3 year old is the size of a 5 year old and the 5t pull-ups almost don't fit him anymore. I know when he needs to go #2 and I've tried putting him on the potty but he fights and becomes aggravatted when put in that situation, causing him to have seizures as a result. Any tips for making the potty less of a stressor?
