Daytime training is different and completely seperate from night time training. You should deal only with the daytime training when starting off and when he starts to get good at that, then you will start to notice his diaper/pullups are dry several days in a row and thats a signal to start worrying about night time training.
There is a big difference between a completely awake 2yr being aware of the sensation that he needs to pee and a clunked out, sleeping 2 yr that now has to be aware of this sensation in his dreams, not to mention this sleepy child getting up by himself, walking to the potty, going, wiping, flushing, washing hands and get himself back into bed. This usually comes with maturity.

A good rule of thumb we tend to go by for girls is:
younger than 2 1/2 yrs old continue to dress her in diapers when she is sleeping. (boys younger than 3 1/2)

2 1/2 years old and older, dress her in training pants and a plastic cover. Also, covering the bed with a plastic or rubber pad to protect the mattress. (boys over 3 1/2 years old.)

Over 3 1/2 wearing regular underwear to bed. (boys over 4 1/2)
We have found that girls tend to mature at an average of one year earlier in potty training than boys do, we dont know why but its been pretty consistant.

MY 2 YEAR OLD IS DOING WELL. BUT HE WON'T "HOLD IT" WHEN I PUT ON THOSE PLASTIC UNDIES. BU WHEN HE WEARS THE "LIGHTENING MC QUEEN UNDIES" HE WILL HOLD IT, MAYBE. SO WHAT DO I DO FOR HIM AT NAP TIME? PUT ON A PAMPER OR NOT?
