My daughter was born with a hearing loss so we've been introduced to sign language. She CAN hear but this is just a useful device so she can communicate. I've learned that it can minimize tantrums and help children communicate their needs better. Signing will NOT stop you child from talking as long as you continue to say what you are signing. Simple signs such as potty, washing hands, more, and all done should help. Libraries have simple baby signing books in the childrens section. My daughter is in a program called 1st Steps and her therapist is the onw who taught me and her. I hope this helps!GOOD LUCK!;)

My daughter is the same way all my other children were talking around one year and she says some words or trys to and she is 21 months, all i do is take her every 15,20, 30 minutes depending on when she has eaten and drank anything and we are getting started, she now goes when I place her on the potty instead of sitting there forever and saying done done, i sing a potty song or make funny faces and especially funny faces when she goes and let her flush and wash her hands, thank goodness hopefully soon I just kicked diapers out the door and know she is ready when shis ready not when her little cousin is potty trained at one, lol, ignore everyone elses milestones,=)

My grandson is a late talker. He is 36 months and just starting to use words. He plays with his potty chair but does not seem to know what it is for. Any suggestions?

My son is a late talker and he's 27 months. We have tryed train ing him before but his speech seems to keep him from potty training. I have no tips for you since I'm just starting. Hope some other mothers or fathers have tips for us. Good luck!

Late Talking Children and Potty Training

Ok, I am looking for ANYONE who has a Late Talking Child and what you did to get your child potty trained. My daughter is almost 3 and doesn't have the vocabulary. I am quite all right with her not potty training until she is ready. I have successfully trained her 16 year old sister when she was 3. But she had verbal skills. I am just looking for some input to what others have encountered. She has no interest in going to the potty and I am not going to be "trained" to look for her signs, she needs to learn to go potty - not me! LOL Who knows, she may just decide one day to go potty without me forcing her or not... Let me know what you have tried. Happy day!
