Hello - our daughter is 2.5 and she will be 3 in April. I can relate to your message best. Our daughter is 100% resistant to the potty. I tried and she had huge temper tantrums. All of the "bribes and tricks" did not work. She actually threw the potty into a closet. Nice...
I have nightmares that she will be in diapers when she is 4! I have no idea why she is resistant. I have tried candy, chips, juice, stickers, pull-ups, and just about everything. How did you get your girls and son to go into the potty?

a couple suggestions:

maybe do the dance after he has the pullup back on.
or
take the underwear away for a while? (unless you think that would put him back farther)
or
give him a treat when he goes in the toilet and the dance after he has the pullups back on
or
try having him put on his pants and pullup as part of the dance

do you have him dressed and then he undresses just to go and you let him run around afterwards with nothing? My 2 year old knows that she cannot come out of the bathroom without her underwear and pants back on...and she does try too!!

my son just turned 3 in September and has been 3 full days and nights in underwear without accidents and we just started 3 days ago i dont do training pants they didnt work to well with my 2 older girls. It only took 2 weeks with them and by the way my son is going it wont be long with hm either. I say to the others out there having problems it will happen when they are ready for it and that happens at different ages my girls were 3 1/2 beore they would even try to go to the bathroom my son has just turned 3 hopefully my youngest is just as quick at this as they were. I am glad to not have to buy anymore diapers for him. He is doing great.

You sound as excited as I was...My son Tyree went in his drawer where his underwear were and said he wanted to wear them. A little reluctant I said ok, and it's been a month or so now and no accidents. He does wear a pull-up to bed but not at nap time. He just turned 3 in May and is doing great:^O

Hit a snag while potty training can anyone help

Sep 19, 2008 3:38 PM
Hi I'am a first time mom of a 2year old who's b-day was June 13, we have just started the potty training and he took to it without a problem. We are now 2mos into training and with just simple instructions he is going poo-poo and pee-pee in the potty all by himself and he comes to me afterwards so we can do our pee-pee, or poo-poo dance. My trouble is that when we began I just removed his pull-up and let him roam free, now when I go to put on undees or a pull-up he just goes on hisself. He doesn't tell me when he has to go nor does he pull it down and go. Help!!!!!!!! What should I do.

Hi 1st Time Mom.

There are all sorts of signs of readiness. Generally, toddlers show several (though not all) of these signs when they are ready:

1. Stays dry for up to two hours and through a nap.
2. Can follow instructions
3. Can sit down for minutes at a time
4. Shows you he’s gotta go potty, either by gesturing to the bathroom or by stopping what he's doing and then, perhaps, making faces or otherwise indicating that he's
going in his diaper.
5. Shows interest in the potty
6. Is uncomfortable in dirty diapers

I suspect, though, that sticking his hands in his diaper has more to do with his fascination with his body parts at the point. But if you see any of these other signs on a regular basis, it may be time to start training.

Good luck!
