Hi Angie,

I went through this with my twin girls who will be turning three in a couple of weeks. They have been successfully using the potty for the last two weeks, but it took about 4 solid days of not going anywhere and committing to making it happen.

Here's what I did.

1. Went to the toy store and let them each pick up a toy that they really wanted. Told them they could have their new toys when they were no longer wearing pull ups.

2. For the first two days, I had them running around with just a sundress on (commando). You will probably have a couple of accidents. Don't make it a big deal, just remind him to go to try the potty next time. Once my girls realized there was no option but to either go on the potty or on the floor, they realized that the potty was the better option.

3. On the third day, I had them wear underwear. Again a couple of accidents, but when they realized that the underwear would not hold it, they started using the potty more consistently.

4. Took them on an outing for just an hour to see if they would be willing to use an unfamiliar potty. (I take a portable folding potty seat so the toilet isn't so intimidating).

He might not be ready yet, or scared of the potty. Kids are odd like that. Trust me. I have 2 daughters, 5 nephews and a niece. Maybe you can try to put stickers in the bathroom, or books, and comfort him. Did he show any signes yet? Maybe you might want to put him in night time pull ups, because it is more of a chance that kids might wet more at night, or put him in pull ups if you are going in public places- just in case. If you are going to public places with him, you might want to bring a few extra pull ups with him, just in case especially if you put him in the car seat.

Can someone give me some advice on how to train my 3 year old. He knows when he goes. He tells me and then when I take him he won't go. As soon as I put his pull up back on he goes. It's so frustrating. He's starting preschool in the fall and I've been trying to train him since Febuary. He's only peed in the potty twice. HELP I need advice.
