Re: Disabled Child wants bigger pull-ups

I have a disabled child myself and am having a really hard time finding something that fits as far as pullups go. She is 7 and has outgrown the 5T, but because of her bladder condition, I had to resort to adult pullups which are way too big and bulky on her small frame. I got pads, but they leak everywhere. My school is really giving me a hard time about it because it takes too long to change her without the kinds that have the pull off tabs. They even asked me to come in everyday and change her, which is impossible considering I have to work and my job is 45 mins away. So I told them, if worse comes to worse, I will just get some bigger regular pullups that our store sells and cut the sides and you guys can just tape them together with some medical tape I can provide.. but they are afraid it won't work.. ugh.. you'd think they'd have more options for special needs children as far as pullups and diapers go :( but I can't find anything anywhere...

I have switched my son over to cloth training pants after trying pull-ups. The did not fit correctly, leaked, and were too expensive. The lady whom I ordered from runs a store that sells cloth diapers and also specilizes in finding diapering products for those "hard to fit" children ( she also does adult products for the eldery). My 2 yr old is 51 lbs. Hes tall, round, yet short in the crotch to bellybutton area. So the bigger diapers were great around the middle but huge from top to bottom. I suggest you try her www.cottonbuns.com

I really wish they would make larger ones for disabled children, my little girl has full bowel and urinary incontinence and she feels so humiliated wearing adult diapers which are obvious when she wears them to school every day, and it would be nice if you made these bigger, maybe online only at first or something, that it would be so much nicer for the people who need it!

I was researching bigger sizes online for my little girl and I stumbled upon a few sites that had people that are “adult baby diaper lovers” I know this is not on topic, but if you sold them larger, I am sure if they saw it, they would probably buy a lot of these. I talked to one of them and their very nice people and they said that they would benefit a lot out of it, and would buy a lot also. I know it’s off subject but I really want my little girl NOT to be humiliated at school every day! Thank you.

I was reading all you guys have written, a lot of these children are developmentally disabled, maybe we are going at this the wrong way, has it come to the developers attention this is for people who have dissablities, not children who will grow out of the pull ups in oh six months, for a lot of these kids its years and not a few and a lot of kids with dissabilities will last for many years, that should tell the developers something, ur kids in this product will KEEP needing them, not grow out of them, sooner or later how will potty training go most kids are being pushed to learn things faster, so who is to say that some sizes wont be phased out cause parents potty train earlier, but with our kids the sizes likely wont be phased out as this is a life situation, not really a potty training situation.

First let me say you can buy anything, if you ask me this would be a huge industry, I know 4 children who would benifit from this, Secondly let me say im crying to finally see some parents going thru the same thing as me makes me feel so much better, I have a 11 year old son who we are not sure what exactly is the problom emotions what he has gone thru but he is in this perdicerment, He will begin Middle school this year and sending him in adult pull ups is just to much for him, he is having such a hard time, make that we. It is bad enough when people do not understand the condition, and make you feel like you have failed as a parent but you have no choice in the matter then to not be able to locate the right product to make it better. I love my child I want him to feel safe and as it is he was nearly kicked out of the one school he was in cause you cannot keep the smell down and the job is messy, as it is, I am at a complete loss, the size differance between a small adult and a extra large kids is monumental, Childern with disabilities need special stuff too. I send out my love and support to all you parents who are under the same situation. I hope someone sees more then pocket book
and sees a need, cause believe me they may not realize it but it would fill a pocket book. there are enough of us out here who need this.

Thank you all for the helpful feedback provided in this thread.

While there are currently no plans for larger size PULL-UPS(R) Training Pants, we continue to monitor the market to understand needs and opportunities.

Part of the challenge of larger step sizes is that the PULL-UPS(R) Brand must make such a strong case to our retail partners in order to get new products on shelf. With such limited shelf space in stores, introducing new products takes away from existing sizes that are in highest demand--and most retailers are unlikely to make that tradeoff.

We will continue to listen to the feedback provided by our consumers. Please feel free to Contact Us at our Consumer Services line to share additional thoughts.

WOW! I am SO relieved to know I am not the only one out there with this problem!! PLEASE Huggies, make larger sized PullUps! My daughter is age 6 and 1/2. She has a brain tumor, a chromosome deletion that causes her to be significantly delayed. We are having a "little" success with the potty training, however most likely due to chemo and low tone, her bowels may neve fully cooperate. She weighs 70 pounds, and the PullUps I have been using for 3 years only go up to 50 pounds! I am using Goodnights now, but her special needs kindergarten teacher wants the velcro on the sides so that getting the pants on her is easier when they need to change her without having to completely undress her. I have looked EVERYWHERE for velcro side diapers big enough to fit her! HELP Huggies! PLEASE, PLEASE make a larger size!!!

There *is* a market for larger sized pull ups -- not only for special needs kids, but also for typically developing kids who are either larger sized or simply a little behind (no pun intended) than the regular population. My special needs son (age 9 and 52 lb), too, is about ready to outgrow the size 4T/5T pullups.

Why not get with the program and make a larger sized one like Pampers (size 7 diapers) or their size 6 swim diapers (another problem area....things are getting scarce for us in the regular stores). Who knows if this would only carry us through for another year or two -- or whether it would be enough to stop the gap between where we are now and being fully trained. But, at least it would be something better than Goodnights or buying them from a very expensive specialty store such as Abilitations.

On the subject of Goodnights -- someone suggested earlier that we use them. OK, fine. I have tried to use them for daily wear and they pose alot of problems. First off - -they are very bulky snd not adjustable at all. They are not the best choice for a child who is on the thinner side like many of our special needs kids are. Second -- they don't have the open/close sides. This means that pants and shoes have to come off if the diaper is soiled at all. This poses some real problems in a public restroom when your child is too old and big to fit on a baby changing table. Schools and caregivers HATE them. Third -- they are more expensive than the regular pullups.

If only, only, only, the Goodnights were split up the side, all our probmes would be solved -- at least until the child was into small adult diapers. Maybe. But, at least the situation would be better than what we have now, which is nothing that we can purchase easily in our local store.

I have been dreading this day for a long time, but what it means is that my son is gaining weight and growing so I can't complain about that. Still......I am very diasspointed that Huggies (or any other brand, frankly) does not make a larger sized pull up for this population. The bottom line, though, is that they probably never will. Although there is a market, it is probably not profitable enough for them to enter it. Should Huggies ever choose to do so; however, I can assure them that they would have many grateful and loyal parents buying their product.

i relate to you all i have a 12 year old blind disabled child with bowel problems huggie pull ups are the best he is getting an off brand right now and it don't hold nothing i am so tired of going through this hassle and it frusterates him he really liked wearing these and was peeing in the toilet but now that he has grown out of them and none of them fit him no more he has back tracked he don't like change i wish they would make and adult size in the pullups from huggies they are the best and my child suffers just like most of your children do too.i can't even find an adult size that works right for him and it is so frusterating.i agree they should make bigger sizes and in between these were the only pull ups worth the money.and easy for him to put on and off himself now im back to having to do it for him.

Could you please give us a reason why you can't
make pullups for disable children.
My son is 10 years old and is 100 lbs.
I do use the goodnites but they are costly.
Autism is 1 in 150 children I think there is a need

Sorry but they can't do this, since it will make competition to poorly made adult products they would have to make the adult products better which they don't wanna and don't care cause the people that use adult diapers will never complain about them (who would after all, it is a question of privacy and dignity) and the ones who really needs them can't complain at all.

hi,i also have a special needs child and have gone throgh those same problems. my child is 8 yrs old at 52 lbs and has outgrown the largest size 6 pull up for some time now. we also tried a home health co. for assistance but because she is tube fed and has gi problems (loose stools mostly) their brand/type did not work to meet her needs. we have since been using goodnights which do work great most of the time but they are super expensive since they are only meant to be temporary or for most kids. you can rarely find them on discount or coupons that exceed the one dollar amount. the price has also gone up a couple bucks recently. it is very frustrating, very costly.its seems like huggies or pampers would have an in-between or larger size pull up available-for disabled children or even for the sake that childhood obesity is on the rise. its hard enough raising these children shouldnt we atleast have recources available to meet their needs???

I just want to say that I am in the same predicament. My son is also disabled and is about to outgrow 4T/5T pullups. The reason that you all should consider making larger sizes is because it is in demand. The GoodNites that you suggested just doesn't cut it. The velcro siding in the pullups makes it easy to change my son. And then the plastic that comes on small size brands for adult diapers, makes my son break out.

I hope that you all would take this suggestion into consideration, especially for our "Special Needs" children.

And "mumdee", let's just keep our fingers crossed.

Thanks for the suggestion! ! We’re sorry we currently don’t carry a larger size. We suggest you look at GoodNites(R) Sleep Pants as an alternative. And please be sure to Contact Us at your convenience so that we can register your input for future consideration.
