My son had issues with the traditional potty too. He is now using a urinal. It's available online at Walmart and Target online. It flushes and he uses it standing up - so no issues with the little pee pee cup but I'm still trying to get my son going to the urinal. He's only peed there once. That's why I'm reading the blogs.

I think most musical potty seats have an off/on switch. At least our Fisher-Price one does. So if your little one is afraid, you can just turn it off or not even put batteries in it.

Yeah, it seems like a lot of the shields are small. It's hard to make sure that they are sitting on it just right so that they don't splash, but I think messes just come with the potty training package any way you go (especially with boys)!

Well I was really fortunate because my son I think has a girls potty, and whats good about it is that it doesn't have a shield. Yes it will happen sometimes that it goes a little on the floor but he likes it and it doesn't hurt him and it goes well. Try it maybe and see how it works for you. Best of luck.

I am having the SAME issue!!!! I have 2 different potty chairs and 2 boys ages 19 months and 3 yrs. Today my 19 month old used the potty....well almost, he walked up to it and pulled down his pull-ups and peed a little in the potty, but mostly on the floor while trying to sit down! Then when he does sit down, the shield hurts him!!!!! I have yet to find a potty with an appropriate sized sheild! Meanwhile, my 3 yr old has never used the potty and isnt even the slightest bit interested! I feel your pain!

Potty chairs for boys

May 28, 2009 9:41 AM
My son just turned 18 months old. i have been looking at potty chairs and potty seats that attach to the potty, but it seems to me that most if not all have really small shields. Im having a really hard time finding a good, inexpensive potty chair/seat with a good shield for him. Any ideas.

Also he is very sensitive to loud and abrupt sounds im concerned that if i get a potty chair that plays music or sings when he actually goes he will jump off and be scared of it, as well as pee on the floor.
