My youngest son thought it was like a game to try to play with it. So I tried the cereal idea where you let them throw a handful in the toilet bowl and they can try to aim for the cereal. This made it more fun for him and he would wave bye-bye to the cereal when he flushed.

My son has done a lot of things that are nasty and when I would tell him it was gross he would laugh and do it more. The one thing I know is every kid has been sick at least once that they remember of so my advice and what I did was tell them that it will make them sick, it's healthy for us to go potty but if we play with it afterwords it can make us sick. Every time my son would repeat an action like wanting to eat things of the floor I would ask him do you want to be sick? and he would say no and I would explain to him again that it could have germs that make us sick and I don't want him to get sick and rather quickly he stopped. Hope this helps :)
