Wow.. It sounds like my son. My son, Drew, is pretty much potty trained and in underwear during the day. The only thing is he rarelly tells me he has to go. I have him go before we leave the house, before lunch etc. But the poop in the morning thing, I definitely relate to. If I don't get my son as soon as he waked, he 90% of the time poops in the pull up. The first thing I did was figure out if he was pooping in the middle of the night or first thing in the morning. You can do this by popping into his room to check his pull up before YOU go to bed. If it's clean, chances are he's pooping when he first getting up. I've asked an expert and was told that children have to be at least semi-awake to poop. So this is what I do, I wake up about 10 minutes before my son generally wakes up. I go in is room and ease him awake. I turn on a soft light, open his door, get his underwear ready. All loud enough that he wakes up gently. Than I say, what's the first thing we do in the morning. He says potty. We go, I read 2 stories, he poops and we move on with our day in underwear. The only problem is if he wakes extra early, he will almost always have let me a surprise in his pull-up. Eventually I hope he will go in the potty without me in to remind him. But, this does work. Hope I helped and good luck-- Marissa

Cut off all liquids 2 hours before bedtime then make her pee right before lieing down. Now for the kicker. Protect her matresss with some type of plastic and then cover it with an old sheet and then put her to bed in her panties NOT A DIAPER OR PULLUP. If you let her have the peepee accidents in bed it will start training her mind that it is gross and to wake up when she feels the sensation to go. It will give you alot of messy sheets to launder for a week or so and she will be waking you up in the middle of the night to change the linens but trust me it works. Before i went to bed each night I would already have my clean up kit ready next to her bed.Wipes to clean her up , a clean pair of panties to put on her, & a clean sheet. It would only take me 5 minutes to switch the dirty one with the clean one.IT WORKS! But even if it takes a week or two it is worth it just don't give in and go back to the pull ups or diapers.

I actullay have a question. My oldest daughter has been day time potty trainned for 2 years now almost 3 (she is 5), But still wears night time pullups. She wakes up with a full pull-up( pee only). Se will get up if she has to go poop ough. What should I do?

This may sound crazy but until he realizes that he needs to go to the toilet to go the poop first thing in the morning he may need to go back to wearing diapers to bed and wear pullups during the day. When he realizes he needs to go to the bathroom to go 1 and 2 then try putting him in underwear.

Hello everyone. I am new to this site and really enjoy the discussions! My 3yr old son has been day trained for 5 months now. We take him out in underwear and he has never had an accident so I know he can hold it. Nighttime is different (which I know takes time). Some mornings he wakes up dry, probably 2-3 times/week. He wears Pull ups to bed. I feel they are a crutch now. When should I put underwear on him for night time? He wears undies for nap time and 99% of the time wakes up dry (2 hour nap). If I put him in underwear, should I be waking him up during the night to go pee? Also, he poops fine during the day but if he has to go first thing in the am, he won't get himself out of bed and go to the toilet and does it in the pull up (very frustrating! but we are patient people : )
Am I rushing him by putting undies on him at night?

my son mastered daytime dryness before night time. my son is now 4 1/2 and has just mastered it. we used pull ups and good nights diapers to amke it easier for evryone. i asked the dr and he said that most kids master night time dryness by the age of six. i never pushed him but he did it on his own. we would wake him up every 2 hours at night to go until he new when he had to get up.

I have to agree with daddyof3, using a diaper at night would be better and once she stays dry she can go back to using a pullup. Putting stickers and coloring her diapers is also a great idea that I will use for my little one when she gets ready.

Just explain to her that diapers are better for her, offer her to decorate them with some stickers with her own art or things like that, just tell her that she will wear Pull-Ups when she start to wake-up at night. Pull-Ups are not made for nightime use like diapers, they can do their job only if the child is able to wakeup to go potty. I would suggest Huggies convertible for the night, she can put them by herself since they can be pulled on, or if she's too tired, you can do it the other way, they absorb like the regular Huggies diapers and work well. and they are cute too, altough with her coloring and adding stickers (perhaps some with princess on them) on her own diaper before bedtime, she won't complain about them at all I'm sure. Just tell her she will wear the Pull-Ups when she's ready for it, normally wait after 7 dry nights before trying is the key to success. Be patient and understanding about it, diapers doesn't mean she's a baby, she just need a protection that Pull-Ups can't offer at night.

How do I revert her back to diapers though when she has been using the pull-ups for almost a year. I think this would just set her back. She likes the independance, not to mention the fact that there is Disney Princess on the Pull-ups and Disney Princess on her panties so she just goes from one to the other. But yes your right about the potential leaks.

Other than the obvious resticting liquid after dinner and taking her as soon as she wakes up, there isn't much else. But be proud of yourself and her to have reached those milestones so soon. It may just be too soon for her 2-3 is an average age to start training and 3-4 is average to finish up so keep your head up and feel good about being so close. Just be consistant she'll get it.

Nightime is different challenge, some kids can take 2-3 years after daytime training before being able to be fully nightime trained, the best advice I can give is stick with diapers at night untill she wake you up to go potty during the night, that's the signal she's ready to wear Pull-Ups at night, before that, wearing Pull-Ups is more expensive and risk of leaks are there, that's all because they are used like a diaper since she doesn't feel the need come and it goes in the Pull-Ups without her noticing anything, so before she can wake up to go potty (with your help at first), the best is to stick using diapers.

Ideas on getting nighttime trained

My daughter will be 3 in May and started potty training when she was 18mths. It's been an uphill battle but we've got days conqured, but because it didn't come all at once I'm unsure on how to get night time dry. Any thoughts?
