the bladder ultrasound showed that my son is not emptying his bladder completely - it remained half full after using the bathroom. from there we went to a urologist, who said that my son has tight control of his muscles, (too tight), and needs to learn how to loosen them to empty completely. this is done throughout a few sessions of a biofeedfeed in a hospital, similar to an EKG for the heart. hopefully this will work.

thanks so much for respoding to my question!
I am in touch with his pediatrician, who is very helpful.
We took some bloodwork and a urine sample to rule out any medical issue, and everything came back normal.
Now the dr. is sending my son for a bladder ultrasound to make sure he is emptying his bladder completely.
I'll keep you posted.

Have you checked with the pediatrician on why he urinates so much? If he's not drinking lots of fluids, there may be an underlying problem.

If he is drinking a lot of fluids, you might want to limit them, keeping in mind he needs more during hot weather and for running around. Check with his pediatrician on how much is enough for his weight, age and activity.

I'd start here before you return to potty training.

trouble with 3 1/2 yr old boy

my oldest child, a boy, is now 3 1/2. I've been trying on and off to train him for about a year now, unsuccessfully. I think that the main problem is that he urinates very frequently and cannot always stay dry for even 30 minutes. He is not always interested in using the bathroom and sometimes puts up a fuss. when I do get him to use the bathroom, he urinates 99% of the time - even if it's just a short time later. He mastered the bowel movement in the bathroom a while ago, thankfully.
He is suppposed to start school in September, and needs to be trained.
any ideas/suggestions?
