Age isn't as important a sign of readiness as other things are. Some signs of potty training readiness include:

Stays dry for 2 hours or through naps
Shows interest in the potty
Asks to be changed
Talks about the potty

The fact that he doesn't like to feel wet is a sign of readiness. But the power struggle between the two of you is likely getting in the way.

You might want to institute Underwear Time, a few hours a day when he gets to wear his favorite pair of underpants, which you pick out together. If he doesn't like to feel wet, it'll be an incentive to use the potty.

But you need to be careful not to pressure him to use the potty. Instead, use some cool new reward, like stickers, to praise him for a job well done. Don't punish him if he gets wet or it'll backfire. Just clean him up and encourage him to use the potty next time.

If, however, he chooses to hold it in during Underwear Time, you might want to abandon that plan and come up with another.

Good luck!

Did I start potty training my son too early?

I started potty training my 2 yr 9 months old son back on 9/6/09. Up to this day he does not tell me when he needs to go. If I take him to the potty he fights me all the way to the bathroom. Once we get there if the timing was right he will go in the potty, if I missed the time then his pull up will be all wet. He does not mind wearing the pull ups like diapers as long as they don't leak. Them moment it leaks he wants to be changed immediately. I get frustrated that he does not want to go to the bathroom even though he might have to pee. I heard boys are ready for potty training later than girls but I thought I had waited enough by starting only a three months before his 3rd year birthday.
