All potty training kids will have accidents. Punishing them for accidents can cause further setbacks and bigger issues.

If your child has been trained and is regressing by having many accidents, consider what's going on in the house. Did you move or is there a divorce? Stress can cause kids to have setbacks. In that case, you might want to put your toddler back in Pull-Ups for a while and start the training up again when things calm down a bit.

If it's not stress related, I recommend that you calmly clean up the mess (es) and tell your child "Uh oh. Accidents happen." Then be sure to praise whenever your toddler gets the pee and poop into the potty.

im no expert, but according to the experts they say that is not recommened to do because it would only scare them more and may cause them to regress rather than improve.

Is it ever okay to spank or punish your child when they wet or mess their underwear?
