It sounds like a classic battle of the wills. It's good news that he goes at school, as this means he is capable and ready to potty train.

I'd get the teachers involved. Have them ask your son to come up with a potty training plan for the house. Let him be in charge of you -- he decides what rewards, he gets, what your role will be, etc. (within reason, of course.)

If he feels like he's the boss, he might feel like he's won the battle of the wills. Then he'd be more likely to potty train at home, too.

3 year old potties for teachers but not me

Oct 30, 2009 4:10 AM
Hello!

I need some advice. My 3 year old will potty for his teachers at school but throws a tantrum for me at home. Stickers, m&ms, and other rewards won't work. I have tried exactly what the teachers do. I think the only factor is ME!

He stays dry all day (except naps and nighttime) but won't relax enough at home to pee in the potty. I never had this problem with my other son!

Any advice for me?!
