I have to agree with you about the Cool Alert and the Fading Designs. These have not worked at all for my 3 1/2 yr old. I do not have the same problems with the sides though. My son can pull them on and off himself and does not have the side open on him. I actually reallylike it so when he poops in his pull up I can take it off like a diaper and not make a mess.

Easy Open Sides... Great Idea, horrible design!

I have always been a big Huggies fan. I used them with my 3yr old and I'm now using them with my 5wk old. I love their diapers. So far, I'm far from impressed with Pullups though. One of the things about potty training is to teach the child that next step of independence. I find this really hard with the easy open sides that pullups provide because they are TOO easy open. Just opening up the pullup so he can use it makes them come open. Then while he is trying to pull them up himself the sides usually "split" and I have to fix them. He can't go to the bathroom and pull up his own pants because they come apart on him. I find that when I pull them up for him, I still have to sit there and piece the tops back together. They also like to come apart through his daily activity. If potty training isn't frustrating enough, now we have to worry about his pull ups not falling apart on him. I'm sure I'm using the right size, I just think they come apart too easily.

The cool strip that is supposed to make him feel wet also doesn't seem to work. Many times he will tell me he is still dry when he is wet. The fading designs also allow the pullup to get pretty wet before they actuallly fade.

It really makes me sad that a brand that I trusted so much through my son's diaper days falls short of the mark when it comes to training pants. This was the first box of Pullups that I've used, so I'm not sure if it is just a manufacturing flaw. I don't know if I will buy another box though. For the amount of money I pay, I'd like something that my son can keep on. I might look into the Pampers Feel and Learn because they don't have the easy open sides. I will still probably continue to use huggies diapers for my 5wk old, but want something I can trust a little more in the training pant area.
