Have you tryed doing exactly what his parents do at home. The same punishments, the same rewards, the same holding his hand, if thats what they do.

He needs to know that at daycare it is no different than at home.

What do you do differently in general? Is daycare more fun than home, is day care less stricked than home? If a child goes into an environment that is in general less strick than his home life he will think he can get away with stuff.

Also it could be that he doesn't want to come to Daycare and be away from his parents, and using it to rebel.

DAYCARE PROVIDER NEEDS HELP!!

Nov 10, 2009 7:27 AM
I've been a daycare provider for about a year now, a mother to 3 children. I care for a 3 year old full time during the day who is in the process of being potty trained. According to his parents, he does great at home but when he's here it's not so great. Everytime I tell him to go potty he throws a fit, kicking and screaming and crying. I try to make it fun for him but he refuses. Just this last week his parents started putting him in big boy underwear, saying he's been staying dry and clean at home. But...not at daycare. I consistently have him sit on the potty but a minute after he gets off the potty he poops in his underwear. I clean the poop out of his underwear and explain to him that poopy goes in the potty not in his underwear. With the parents permission I've taken television privileges away. I usually allow educational television for at least an hour but now I'm using it as a reward. If he uses the potty he gets to watch television. He knows to go pee in the potty but he refuses to poop in the potty. Last week he did poop in the potty once and he got rewarded big time for it and according to his parents, all weekend he's been going poopy in the potty but now, this week...no poopy in the potty.

I never had this much trouble potty training my own children. Maybe it's different because I'm a daycare provider.

Is there anything I can do? Should I put him back in Pull-Ups until he starts going poopy in the potty? And suggest that to the parents.

Any advice is welcome. And don't suggest stickers or treats because I've tried those and nothing works.
