I have to say I read about the egg timer method and thought it would fail like so many things we have tried but after a week of use I think my 4 year old is finally going to be trained for #2.
He is in JK, has had constipation issues but this is what we do.
At supper time, he gets a spoon ful of Lansoyl - see your pediatrician about this wonderful product.
We set the timer for 30 minutes.
When the timer goes off, we head to the bathroom no questions asked, put the toilet seat on, make sure we have a couple story books to read - I keep a barstool in the bathroom for book storage and to read on.
We have tried so many things, he has had good weeks of trianing and we thought we were there before he turned 4 when he would actually go #2 by himself without being asked but then stopped. He is great with #1 and stays dry all night so the success with this method is making me so happy.
We give rewards for success - he only gets to watch a certain video when he has #2 success.
Extra bonus is he gets stickers at school for all the books we are getting read together during our potty time.
The timer is my new best friend - nobody argues with it.

My son was 4 1/2 when he finally decided to use not the potty, but the toilet. At 3 yrs I was at my wits end, and at my mom's advice (from Dr. Spock's potty training book) dropped the subject for awhile. What worked for him was "big boy underwear." They make all the cool characters the boys like. For him it was Power Rangers and Star Wars. And it was his idea. I just told him he could have them when he started using the potty like a "big boy." He started immediately, but refused to use the potty, went straight to the toilet. He also barely had any accidents. After the first package of pull-ups I didn't bother to buy anymore. Good luck to both of you.

4 and a half year old potty training

My son is 4 and a half years old. He knows how to go potty, but he does the same thing. He gets excited and does well for a while, then gets bored of it and doesn't care for a while.

He is motivated by little. He just doesn't care. I have to try new ideas all the time. He gets bored with one reward system and I move on to the next.

This week, I have told him that if he poo poos in his pants, he doesn't get TV, computer time, movies or video games until he poo poos in the potty again. This was very hard on ME at first, as 2 hours of TV a day used to be my break time. But he is used to it, now, and does not poo poo in his pants. When he does it in the potty, he'll get his priveleges back. The problem is, whenever he gets his privileges back, he goes right back to hiding and pooping his pants, and the privilege is removed again for a while.

His other rewards for going poop in potty is a little 25 cent plastic toy dinosaur (he loves dinosaurs) and a dinosaur sticker for his chart (he really doesn't care about candy). When he goes a whole 24 hours without soiling pants, he'll get a large plastic toy dinosaur, which cost me $3.00.

When he is completely potty trained, he gets to go fishing with his grandpa, to the dinosaur park with his grandma, to sleepovers, soccer lessons, basketball lessons, and swimming lessons.

I've even tried naked training. It worked for a while. Then he got bored of it and decided he loved peeing on the furniture.

Any ideas for me would be great!

5 YO poopy britches

OK Mom's we need your advice! My son was a little late potty training. He stopped wearing pullups the week of his fourth birthday and has done pretty well since (he wears pullups at night) The last two weeks have been a nightmare! He's been pooping his pants every day:^O . I make him sit on the potty and he does nothing...Ten minutes later he hides and goes in his pants. I've put him back in pull-ups when we go out. Yesterday, he pooped his pullup in Target and I had to buy diapers and wipes and change him in the bathroom. I've tried just about everything...Any Ideas?.
