Don't worry!! It will seriously "click" one day. My daughter at 2 yrs 6 months was consistently peeing on the potty but when it came to poop she didn't seem to get it. I was changing her underwear literally 17 times a day because she would let a little out but REFUSED to sit on the potty to get it all out in one shot. We put the potty in front of the TV and made her sit there and hope we got the "big one"... sometimes it worked... sometimes it didn't.

All of sudden, one day she went into the bathroom, sat on the potty and pooped all on her own! Now at 2 yrs 9 months old we have had no messes in her underwear, dry pants all day, and dry pants in the morning too!! It literally just clicked one day and I think we've finally hit the jackpot!!!

Don't worry... 2 1/2 yrs is still young to "do it all". Just be patient! Sounds like she's doing just fine and she's right on track!

One thing that we had to do was figure out our daughters pattern. Most kids poop around the same time daily and 'disappear' somewhere to do it. After we established the pattern, we would take her into the bathroom to pee and have her sit on the toilet so we could talk. We talked about why she was afraid of pooping in the toilet and explained to her where it went when we flushed it down.

If we did catch her hiding we would clean her up in the bathroom by the toilet so she could see it was okay for the poop to go down and the toilet paper. We didn't use wipes because we wanted her to understand how the toilet paper was used.

Another thing that we are doing to reinforce it is to remind her of all the big girl things she can do after she can fully go in the toilet. Her thing right now is that she could take dance classes with the city. When she gets off the toilet now she says 'I didn't poop my pants so now I get to go to the dance'. We don't know if she knows really what that is, but it's better than giving her a piece of candy or a sticker right away because she has to work for it. She has an established goal and so do we. Just be patient and don't get mad when accidents happen - if that's what they are. Just reinforce the positive of pooping with her so she knows that the toilet isn't scarey and you guys aren't mad at her if she doesn't go. B-) Hope this helps.
